Iron Gold, especially on a reread, in many ways feels like a necessity. An inevitability, even. Something that the original trilogy was leading toward all along. The book begins with a ten year time jump, and it reinvigorates the series on almost every level. It changes the stakes, the circumstances, and the passage of time is believable.

Pierce wants to expand the universe and who knows maybe in the next two books he might expand with them. Ephraim is trig's husband and we will get the view of a gray mercenary, Lyria is a red from the mines and we will get her view point from leaving the mines to the place for reds now and Lysander is out in the outer reaches of space with Cassius so who knows what he's up to.

That dialogue between the two was thoughtful and there was a mutual respect between the two warlords. Towards the end of this verbal exchange when the ash lord informed Darrow and Sevro about the kidnapping of their kids is the moment.
